It was such a great opportunity to have read through almost all the blog post of everyone in the E-Communication in the 21st Century class. We all did wonderful and excellent job. Below that I like to comment on.
What's up with Vimeo - Jammie
Jammie did a great job on all his posts but the one that really caught my attention is on Vimeo. My office has a Vimeo account but I don't really know all the features and how it works. All I know is that we upload videos of some of our programs and the achievements of our clients for people to see. Jammie expatiates and gave insight into the features of Vimeo, how it works, and how best to go about your video quality. I will go back to explain the best to use Vimeo to my employer and the available help online.
It's a Community, "Do Unto Others......" - Mike
I like the way Mike presented the issue of piracy and the issue of intellectual property. One needs to be conscious about using another persons work. If one is compelled to use it either in part or whole, there must be credit. There are many legal tussles attached with unguided usage of people works, photos and so on. according to Mike, all these could be averted by giving credit. Do to others what you would want them to do to you - What a great quote.
Blogging Best Practices - Joey
I an fascinated by Joey's approaches to good blogging. He explained that regardless of the purpose for your blog, either for business ,celebrating people's achievements, or service delivery, the simple way to follow is engage, be casual, make it inviting, appealing, and good to promote. I really agree that this simple steps works.

Adobe Connect Saga
I once used Adobe Connect for one of my classes at DU, but what I did was listen. What I did was listen, not presenting. The whole system of navigating looks strange and tedious. After all lectures, self study and all, I ended up with many problem when I wanted to deliver my presentation. I tried all the laptops in my house but they keep failing me. I get connection into the room but audio will not work and strange information keep coming into the screen like..... open a new meeting window or check your troubleshooting for further assistance. Every instructions given on the laptop ended messing the whole system. I was infuriated and disturbed.
Since I live in Brighton, Colorado which is about 40 minutes drive to DU, I decided to go DU library on the day of my presentation in order to get further help. I got a private room for my presentation, listened to couple of fellow classmates , on getting to my turn the system failed me again. I tried for more than three hours without success. I was sweating profusely, Fr. Alice was so concerned about me. She tried all efforts to put me through all to no avail. At the end of the day Dr. Alice to me to let go she will communicate with me through email.
On the new day for my presentation, I rushed to DU Tech Center and was guided through the connection process by opening some new windows and agreeing to some terms. I rushed to a private presentation room, tried to upload my slides no way not until Dr. Alice came to the rescue. Dr. Alice ended up moving my slides forward and backward from her end as directed by me. From this experience, I felt what matters most in Webinar is to plan ahead. Give yourself quality time for equipment testing, rehearse, and be very focus. Do not be distracted because that may be the end of your presentation.

Blogging Best Practices
Blogging is increasingly becoming a communication tools for exchange of views and ideas. To be candid, I am not a blog person. Lately, I have read many blog posts and found the under listed as the best practices for good blogging.
1. Keeping it Fresh: A good blog needs to be frequently updated. It needs to be fresh and genuine . readers/customers are looking for honest opinion, real answers, and timely updates that could be beneficial to them. So as to these, efforts needs to be made to keep blogs fresh.
2. Engaging: Tittle and the first two paragraphs of a blog needs to be catching. This will push readers to ant to read more. it has to be appealing from the beginning which will make readers to probe further.
3. Choice of Words: Be mindful of choice of words. Blog posts can lead to legal battles. There needs to be concerns about vague and abusive language. Though, there are laws that prohibits liability, exclusions, libels, misappropriations, and injuries as a result of posts. Currently, there are many legal tussles associated with blogging, so there has to be some sort of disclaimer and limitation of liability.
4. It Must Be Casual: The language must be casual and less authoritative. Efforts should be made to write in a mannered tone. I mean natural and conversational, see it as a writing to a guy next door.
5. Giving Credit: Credit must be giving to other peoples posts or links. read other peoples blogs and give credit to anything borrowed. You have to be reading other peoples blog to know what is reigning. It is good to take cues from somebody's post but there must be due recognition. Refer to the initial owner , give useful links at all time.
6. Keep it Short and Simple: Short posts are easy to read. If you have a lot to write, you should split them into to three ones or subheads. This will not let the reads to be bored.

Blogging
This is my first blog in life. I am using E-Communication in the 21st Century course as an opportunity to be exposed to blogging. I have never deemed it fit to have a blog site of my on because I viewed everything about blogging as unnecessary publicity or intruding into individuals privacy. Out of curiosity, I as compelled to check what blogging really means may be my notion could be changed. I read from Wikipedia that " blog is a discussion or informational site published on the worldwide web and consists of discrete entries and not necessarily to be formal. Anyway, this is increasingly changing lately. Blogging are made to be interactive. It allows any visitors to make comments, leave comments, and messages via GUI widgets on the blog. Blogging could be termed to be a form of social media networking. Blogging has developed into another thing entirely. Blogging is better developed and used as a means of banding, marketing, advert, and celebrating people. Blogging sites to my own understanding are used to increase popularity and engage others. Many used it to promote business while some people used it to settle personal grudges.
I am motivated to use this blog practice assignment to see how blogging works since it is now evident that blogging could be used to promote business and events. Like I said initially, I don't know much about blogging. Having my own blog will expose me to the rudiments of blogging. Having my own blogging site will change my perception about blogging. I will be exposed to reading various blogs from business promotion to personal issues and monitor reactions and comments of others. Interacting with other peoples blog is essential here. Free cell Phone for Disabled People and Senior Citizens
The government in conjunction with some notable telephone services providers recently rolled out a new program for the disabled and senior citizens. The program is call Government Free Cell Phone Program. this is specifically aimed at alleviating the suffering or hardship meted out to many disabled and seniors in our society. Many disabled/seniors lives were lost due to their inability to make contact in an emergency situations. some of the disabled and seniors that lives independently ought to have means of communication or reaching out to people for help at all time. I have worked with disabled and senior citizens for years and know the problem some of them were daily going through making contacts and connections. introduction of this free government free cell phone will save many lives.
while applauding this new government initiatives for disabled and senior citizens, I am greatly concerned about transparency and accountability. I am worried about those that will be placed in this position of authority. Since it is a program in conjunction with some carriers, there might not be proper accountability. It may not be properly tracked, thereby all qualified people may not benefit from the program. If the government wants to engage in free cell phone services for the disabled and seniors, I think it is supposed to be completely free. Many of these cell phones provides are claiming the agreement with the government was that the disabled and the seniors could only be given this phones with one time activation fee and 250 minutes airtime monthly and the program runs for one year. this gesture is to help those in need of this service and government effort would be met by not attaching any thing to it. I read about this government assistance from the Denver Post and assurance Wireless. it could be more structured and targeted at the disabled and seniors that really needed this help. Some disabled and seniors are capable of buying cell phone on their own, but those that really needed it should be sought for.
My office has begun collating the names of disabled and seniors citizens who wish to benefit from this government initiatives. this should also be done in all the companies that care for this class of individuals. From my own understanding, the government free cell phone program is not available in all states. Colorado is among the states that currently participate in this program. I hope the government needs to have a better means of informing beneficiaries. Companies/organizations providing services for disabled and seniors citizens may be a good avenue to inform their clients. Also, heavy advert on electronic and print media would be necessary.

Facebook Mark Zuckerberg's New Acquisition: Whatsapp
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg acquires Whatsapp on February 19, 2014 after months of negotiation with the owners. Whatsapp is a messaging app that could be used as an alternative to your phone provider's texting service. Whatsapp is also used in sharing photo, video, and transferring of contents to anybody on your contact lists. Whatsapp was bought for a whooping sum of $19 billion. My concern is why this acquisition. Facebook already has all the features of Whatsapp. Lately, free calls and video calling are made from Facebook to Facebook. All you needed to do is download the Facebook free call app and you start enjoying your free calls.
Mark is a good business man that is trying to connect the whole world. But at this time, I'm beginning to think that this latest acquisition might be a wasted effort. though, I may not be totally right until we see the two social media integrated and work together. Nobody is sure at this time whether Whatsapp would be operated as a separate entity for commercial purpose or incorporated with Facebook. If Whatsapp services of texting, sharing of video, photo, and contents are incorporated into Facebook, I may be right by saying a wasted effort. Reason being that Facebook already has all the features of Whatsapp. Calls are made from Facebook to Facebook free of charge, videos and photos are shared freely on Facebook. The same thing applicable to Whatsapp.
I am at this juncture viewing Mark Zuckerberg from another angle. is it selfishness or it might be a threat of being outsmarted by all these new social media that are springing up everyday. Facebook like to remain relevant in the market by being the leading social network provider. this might be his reason for acquiring and planning to acquire more. Let us keep our fingers crossed and watch how event unfold for Facebook.
